This dish stands out not only for its flavor but also for its history. Cochinita Pibil has deep cultural value: it was traditionally prepared as an offering during important celebrations, such as the Day of the Dead, known in the Yucatán Peninsula as Hanal Pixán .

According to accounts from early explorers, it was originally made with venison or pheasant , slowly cooked in an earthen oven called a pib . With the arrival of the Spanish, these meats were replaced with pork, giving rise to the recipe we know and love today.

Today, that ancient tradition comes to your table: practical, delicious and with all the flavor of its origin.

Each order includes 400g of Cochinita Pibil , carefully packaged in a food-grade plastic tray and frozen to preserve its authentic flavor, aroma, and juiciness .

In addition, each order comes with marinated red onion , ready to complement your dish.

Just heat and enjoy , in tacos, tortas or your favorite recipe — perfect for any occasion!

To complete your order, you can find yellow, white or blue tortillas, tostadas, your preferred salsa or any other product in the corresponding section of the store, add them to your shopping cart and you're done.

Guide to defrosting and heating

1. Defrosting (recommended)

Pre-thawing (optional but recommended)

For better texture and even heating, defrost the product before reheating:

Refrigeration method (recommended): Place the product in its packaging in the refrigerator for 8–12 hours or overnight.

Quick method: Keep the package tightly sealed and submerge it in cold water, changing the water every 20–30 minutes for 1–1.5 hours.

❗ Do not defrost at room temperature to avoid microbiological risks.

2. Steam reheated (recommended)

Fill a large pot with 3–5 cm of water and heat it until it comes to a gentle boil.

Remove the product from the plastic tray and place it in a suitable steaming container (metal or refractory plate or container).

Place the container on a rack or steamer inside the pot, without it touching the water.

Cover the pot and heat according to the product's condition:

  • 15–20 minutes if defrosted
  • 25–30 minutes if frozen

Mix lightly and check that the internal temperature reaches a minimum of 74°C before serving.

3. Reheated in the oven
Preheat the oven to 160–170 °C (325 °F).
Place the product on a tray, cover it with aluminum foil to retain moisture.
Heat for 20–25 minutes if defrosted, or 30–40 minutes if frozen.
Check that they are piping hot before serving.

4. Microwave reheat (quick option)
Place the product on a microwave-safe plate and remove the plastic lid if it is not heat-resistant.
Heat on defrost or medium power for 5–8 minutes depending on size.
Let it rest for 2–3 minutes to allow the heat to distribute evenly.
